Hiroko Moriguchi’s latest album, ANISON COVERS 2, released on August 7 with the concept of an anime song cover album for adults, has reached 8th place on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking and 5th place on Billboard Japan’s Top Album Sales Weekly Ranking. As of September 5, the entire album is now available for digital streaming.

A follow-up to ANISON COVERS, this album features iconic anime songs from the 1980s and 90s, covered and self-covered by Hiroko Moriguchi.

The album includes collaborations with notable artists such as guitarist and music producer Yuji Toriyama, former Casiopea member and top drummer Akira Jimbo, cellist Hiroki Kashiwagi, accordionist Saburo Tanooka, Kanako Momota from Momoiro Clover Z, and Naoto Kine from TM NETWORK. Hiroko Moriguchi’s rich vocals breathe new life into timeless anime classics, brought to life through these exceptional collaborations.

The newly available tracks include all 10 songs from the album, including previously released tracks such as Omoide ga Ippai / with Yuji Toriyama and Akira

Profile of Hiroko Moriguchi

In 1985, Hiroko Moriguchi made her debut with “Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete,” the

theme song for the TV anime “MOBILE SUIT Ζ GUNDAM”.

In 1991, “ETERNAL WIND – Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka (Smile in the Shining Wind),” the theme song for the movie “Mobile Suit Gundam F91″, became a hit and entered the top 10 of the Oricon Ranking for the first time. From that year, she participated in NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen for six consecutive years.

In 2018, on NHK’s Announcement! Gundam Song Ranking, her song “Mizu no Hoshi e Ai wo Komete” ranked first, and “ETERNAL WIND – Hohoemi wa Hikaru Kaze no Naka (Smile in the Shining Wind)” ranked third out of 361 Gundam songs. Following this success, she released the album “GUNDAM SONG COVERS”, which featured the top 10 songs as cover and self-cover versions with renowned musicians.

The album peaked at No. 3 on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking, setting the record for the longest interval between top 10 albums by a female artist. At the end of the year, it also won the “Planning Award” at the Japan Record Awards.

In 2020, she released “GUNDAM SONG COVERS 2” as a sequel, and in 2022, the final chapter in the series, “GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3″. All three albums ranked in the top three of the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking, and the series shipped over 250,000 copies.

In June 2022, her single “Ubugoe,” the theme song for “Mobile Suit Gundam: The Island of Cruz Doan”, entered the top 10 of the Oricon Weekly Single Ranking—her first time in 29 years. On May 24, 2023, she released “ANISON COVERS“, a collaboration of her famous songs with renowned musicians. Her ever-evolving voice, with its increased expressive power, continues to captivate audiences and draw renewed attention.
