Japanese creator crew “UNI-Qreatives” released new single “Do It Over (feat. EMI MARIA)”

Until now, Western countries have continued to lead the world music industry, but in 2023, the rise of Asian musicians is becoming increasingly prominent.

Additionally, with the popularization of social networks, countless musicians and creators without major record labels are becoming a common part of the music scene.

Riding this trend, up-and-coming Asian creators who are attracting attention with their unique concepts and promotions are emerging faster than ever before.

However, within Asia, a “unique” group of creators is beginning to emerge from Japan – a country that has developed its own distinctive music industry while taking a relatively inward-looking approach to the market.

UNI-Qreatives, also known as UNI-Q (Unique), has attracted a great deal of attention for its experimental and expansive “UNI-Q Co-Writing Project”.

This project aims to “pursue new musical chemistry” through collaboration with skilled topliners, trackmakers, and other creators, transcending nationality, race, and language boundaries.

Singers and creators overflowing with talent and originality have announced their participation in this project one after another.

“UNI-Q Co-Writing Project” is attracting a lot of attention as a way to let listeners around the world know that Japan has as many talented people as the rest of the world.

The project’s fourth featured guest will be EMI MARIA, a prominent Japanese female singer who made her brilliant debut in Japan at a young age. Since then, she has continued to lead the J-R&B scene.

EMI MARIA  (エミ マリア)

R&B singer-songwriter. Born to a Papua New Guinean father and Japanese mother.

EMI MARIA began writing lyrics and creating tracks in junior high school and started performing live at the age of 18.

She has participated as a featured vocalist, receiving invitations from SEEDA, Hannya, and other artists.

Her single “I gotta-Summer Kiss-” – released in July 2008 – was ranked No. 1 in downloads in 2008.

In October 2009, she made her major debut with Victor Records.

She later released her first new album in three years, “In My World” (2014), after getting married and having a child.

Her album “EUPHORIA” (2015) included the song “91” featuring her husband, rapper SEEDA.

This album showcased a more ambitious evolution of her work.

The singles “Lost In Tokyo” and “FIRE” were released consecutively in 2017, and consistant digital releases resumed in the spring of 2022.

Showcasing her many talents, EMI MARIA creates her visual illustrations herself.

The song “Do It Over,” co-written by UNI-Q and EMI MARIA, expresses the sad and painful struggle of accepting the fact that a partner’s heart is gradually leaving for a new place. The song explores admitting one’s own faults and accepting the situation, whilst at the same time wishing to start over.

The work is a beautiful blend of EMI MARIA’s lush and emotional voice and a mesmerizing sound that incorporates elements of alternative R&B, electro, ambient music and more.
