INTRODUCTION-

『ウルトラマン』が、新たなステージへ――。
伝説のヒーロー、ウルトラマンが新たなヒーローとして生まれ変わる。誰も見たことのない戦いが今、始まる。

『ウルトラマン』がTVに登場したのは1966年。最先端の特撮技術で描かれた銀色の巨人は、瞬く間に国民的ヒーローとなり、現在も世界中で人気を集めている。
そして2011年、漫画雑誌「月刊ヒーローズ」に『ULTRAMAN』（清水栄一×下口智裕）が登場した。
『ULTRAMAN』で描かれているのは、メタリックなウルトラマンスーツを身にまとって戦う「等身大ヒーロー」としてのウルトラマン。
そして、ウルトラマンとなるのは、父・早田進（ハヤタ・シン）から“ウルトラマン因子”を受け継いだ高校生・早田進次郎（ハヤタ・シンジロウ）である。
「父と子の宿命」「等身大ヒーロー」という要素を取り入れ、これまでのウルトラマン像を大きく覆した本作は、若者からも支持され、現在累計260万部を超えるヒット作となった。

ビジュアル面でも「誰も見たことのないウルトラマン」を目指す本作は、世界で活躍する豪華スタッフの手で、フル3DCGアニメーションとして制作される。
監督は『攻殻機動隊 S.A.C.』シリーズ、『ひるね姫～知らないワタシの物語～』の神山健治と『APPLESEED』『スターシップ・トゥルーパーズレッドプラネット』の荒牧伸志の2人体制。
2人が積み上げてきた作品へのこだわりがULTRAMANで化学反応を起こす！

『ウルトラマン』の放送から半世紀を越え、ついに『ULTRAMAN』が大きな一歩を記すときがやってきた。

“Ultraman” is moving onto a new phase―
The legendary hero Ultraman is going to be reborn as a new hero.The first-ever battle is about to begin.

Ultraman first appeared on TV in 1966. Having been shot with the cutting-edge special effects, the silver giant soon became a widely known hero, and it’s winning the popularity all over the world even today.
And ULTRAMAN (Author: Eiichi Shimizu×Tomohiro Shimoguchi) was serialized in _HERO’S monthly magazine in 2011.
In “ULTRAMAN”, Ultraman was drawn as a “Human-sized hero” who fights in a metallic Ultraman suit.
And Shinjiro Hayata, a high school student who inherited the gene of Ultraman from his father Shin Hayata, becomes Ultraman.
Having brought in the element of “the fate lies between father and son” and “the human-sized hero”, it changed the traditional images of Ultraman and gained popularity among young people. This led it to become a big seller and its circulation has reached more than 2.6 million.
Also, this ULTRAMAN, whose physical appearance was aimed to be “the first-ever Ultraman”, will become the full 3DCG animation film by the hands of globally-acting amazing staff.

Kenji Kamiyama, who is known as the director of “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex “ANCIEN AND THE MAGIC TABLET”, and Shinji Aramaki, the director of “APPLESEED” and “Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars”, will team up as directors of this film.
Obsessions of the two on this project shall cause a chemical reaction in ULTRAMAN!
After a half century from the launch of the first Ultraman, ULTRAMAN project will finally stepping into a new level.

荒牧監督と共に3DCGでULTRMANのアニメーション制作に挑戦しています。
いままでにも3Dでのアニメ制作は経験がありましたが、モーションキャプチャーを使用するのは今回初めての経験です。
演出の仕方、絵作りの方法論は手付けや作画のアニメ制作とは異なりますが、新しいチャレンジは作品を作っていく上で刺激になり、面白いアイディアに繋がっていくという確信があります。

I’m now making 3DCG ULTRMAN with Mr. Aramaki.
I’ve made 3D animations in the past in my life, but it’s the first time for me to use Motion Capture to make the animation.
The way of direction and the methodology of picture-making are quite different from the key frame animation and hand-drawn animation, but new challenges will have a stimulating effect on working on this title, and it will lead to the interesting ideas.

今回、ULTRAMANという大きなタイトルを、さらに神山監督という強力すぎるクリエイターと一緒に作る、ということが、私には過激な緊張感と期待感をもたらしています。
日本で作る3DCGアニメの作品として、CGアニメの新形態を見せたいと思っています。
原作コミックのおもしろさを増幅し、ウルトラマンシリーズのファン、原作コミックのファンだけでなく、全く新しいファンも楽しめるような作品にするべく全力を投入します。

It’s straining yet fascinating for me to be a director of such a big title with a great creator Mr. Kamiyama.
I’m planning to show a new style of CG animation through this made-in-Japan 3DCG animation film.
I will dedicate efforts to amplify the amusingness of the original comic, and make it enjoyable not only for Ultraman series fans and the fans of ULTRAMAN comic books, but also for new fans.
